  • Obesity is also can lead t0 complications of pregnancy, menstrual problem, hirsutism, stress incontinence, psychological disorders,increased surgical risk and increased mortality .

A simple calculation of whether are you part of the obese?
BMI = kilograms / meters2
Classification : <> 40.0 class III obesity

How much is quantified as too much body fat?
Men shouldn’t have more than 18% total body fat and whilst women can hold up to 23%. However, experts conclude that an excess is not particularly hazardous to health until an individual accumulates 35% and 40% total body fat respectively.

If somebody has 10% body fat, what is it mean? This person weighs 100 pounds and having 10% fat which is equal to 10 pounds of fatty tissue and 90 pounds of other, so called lean tissue.

Body fat percentage can be estimated from a person's BMI by the following formula:
Bodyfat% = (1.2 * BMI) + (0.23 * age) − 5.4 − (10.8 * gender)
where gender is 0 if female and 1 if male

According to statistic done, in order to lose 1 pound of fat, we require approximately 4000 calories.

Where does the fat come from?
Fat is produced by the body due to an excess intake of calories in the food or drink. When the diet provides more calories than the body should absorb for general function and the level of physical activity, the excess energy is stored in as “body fat”.

Why the excess fat always seem go to the same place?
A good question that we should ask. Actually, our body tends to deposit fat according to genetic code. If you are a typical female, the fat will accumulate around your thighs and hips. Whilst for men, the fat will be around midriff.

Do we need essential fat in our body?
Definitely yes. This is the fat that required for normal physiological functioning includes fat in the marrow of bones, heart, liver, spleen, kidneys, intestines, muscles and lipid rich tissues of the central nervous system. Both men and women need essential fat for the daily function, it is approximately 12% and 15% for men and women respectively.

Shall dicuss more on how to lose the excess fat in the subsequent article...
